I pulled these onions out of the garden this week (with a lot of help from a spade - wow, they were comfortable in that earth). Two onions were growing from one root system, snug together like two compatriots in a trench. I turned them over to get a picture of the roots, but before I could snap the shot, two little hands reached up and pulled them apart. Some things are just too unusual (or purple) not to explore.
